Abstract
The history and current state of the Interamerican Society of Psychology (SIP) are analyzed. The article had three aims: 1) to examine sip's long history, 2) to review the most important activities carried out by SIP, and 3) to analyze the challenges that SIP is facing in the future, according to the Strategic Plan 2016-2026. In order to develop those aims, several sources and documents are retrieved and analyzed. It is considered that SIP should renew an important part of its organizational structure whether it is to maintain the important role that it has had so far concerning the professional and scientific development of psychology in the Americas.

En materia de publicación, la sip ha promovido la edición de libros, boletines, actas de congresos y revistas científicas, entre otros materiales. cabe destacar por su im-portancia y significación para la psicología en la región: Psicología en las Américas (alonso y Eagly, 1999) y Proble-mas centrales para la formación académica y el entrenamien-to profesional del psicólogo en las Américas (toro y Villegas, 2001; Villegas, marassi y toro, 2003a, 2003b). En tales publicaciones se puede encontrar un acceso directo a la psi-cología como ciencia y profesión en las américas, además de reparar en los problemas que atañen a la formación aca-démica y profesional del psicólogo en la región, mientras se dan a conocer cifras aproximadas y las condiciones aso-ciadas a la creación de nuevas escuelas de psicología (Salas, 2016).
