Information and communications technologies enable the development of technological solutions that were previously difficult and expensive to implement, such as implementing long-distance control systems, which would require high-power communications equipment, antenna systems, and power supplies. In this article, we present a methodology for implementing long-distance communications systems based on the LoRa protocol. We describe the benefits of implementing the protocol through an application example, simulating surveillance of large areas such as farmland, large warehouses, or other environments where a security system is necessary due to their extensive coverage area and difficult access for monitoring. We present the hardware required for its implementation, as well as the code for configuring and connecting devices, generating a network of devices based on the LoRa protocol. In conclusion, we present the uses and applications for exploiting this technology so that it can be replicated and scaled according to connection and control needs.
