Abstract
Technologies applied in the health area have improved the processes of diagnosis or treatment of conditions with greater precision and in less time, allowing monitoring and control of medical care processes with greater safety, one of them being cardiovascular or respiratory problems that are directly related to heart and respiratory rate. For this reason, various devices have been developed such as pulse oximeters, smartwatches, among others, which have allowed the measurement of both vital signs almost instantaneously, with controversy by many specialists in the reading errors that these devices may have and do not guarantee the correct monitoring of students, knowing that these types of conditions can complicate the health of the student in full activity to the point of causing death. In view of this problem, in this research an image processing system was developed for the monitoring of heart and respiratory rate in high school students to evaluate the student's condition without the need to place electrodes or sensors, but the monitoring is carried out through the method of Image Photoplethysmography that allows to remotely extract physiological signals from a person's video through the webcam with the application of processing techniques in MATLAB. Through the development of this system, it was possible to appreciate its operability with an efficiency of 97.96% in monitoring heart rate and an efficiency of 91.64% in monitoring respiratory rate instantaneously on students.
