Abstract

The literature has proposed measures to evaluate fatherhood performance in childcare tasks through the mother’s perception. This instrumental design study presents evidence from the analysis of the internal structure and reliability of the Maternal Gatekeeping Measure designed by Allen and Hawkins (1999). A sample of 703 Peruvian women who had a partner relationship with the father of children under the age of 12 was evaluated; the results indicate the robustness of the bifactor model (CFI = .99; RMSEA = .08, CI90% [.06, .10]; WRMR = 0.59) and a good reliability at construct level (ω = .92; CI95% [.91-.93]). It is recommended to replicate this study in different samples and maximize the contributions on the protagonism of men in the household through the construction of new measures that evaluate the exercise of fatherhood.
