Scientometric study on esophageal cancer and hot beverages/food: emerging patterns, collaboration, and impact

Introduction: Esophageal cancer (EC) is a common global health concern. It ranks as the one of the most prevalent cancers. Interestingly, EC shows a higher occurrence in men and is more frequently reported in Asia and East Africa. To identify emerging research patterns, collaborative networks, and the scientific impact of studies focused on esophageal cancer and the consumption of hot foods and beverages. Materials and Methods: A database search was conducted on February 3, 2024, using specific keywords related to esophageal cancer and hot foods/hot beverages. Eighty-eight papers were found, of which 27 met the selection criteria and were published between 2018 and 2023. Results: McCormack, Valerie Ann, Dawsey, Sanford M., and Schüz, Joachim stood out in terms of h-index. The Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the International Agency for Research on Cancer had the highest number of publications. According to Bradford’s law, the “International Journal of Cancer” was in the first zone with eight publications. According to Lotka’s law, 331 authors were found to have written one paper each. In the map of collaboration between countries, it was found that Argentina collaborated once with Paraguay, Austria with Malaysia, and Belgium with South Africa, among others. The analysis revealed that McCormack, Dawsey, and Schüz lead in h-index. Conclusion: The Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the International Agency for Research on Cancer are the most published. According to Bradford and Lotka’s laws, the International Journal of Cancer leads with 8 publications, and 331 authors wrote one paper each. Diverse international collaborations were observed.
