Abstract

The present invention relates to a bioadsorbent obtained from rose stem biomass waste and a method for obtaining the same. The method for obtaining bioadsorbent from rose stem waste is characterized in that it comprises: a) Collection of rose stems. The biomass is collected from rose stem waste, the parts of the plant that do not correspond to the stem were eliminated and the weight is determined. b) Pretreatment of the biomass: the rose stems were dried for 7 days at room temperature, taking as a reference for initial optimal drying the ease of breaking of the stem, once dried, they were cut into pieces of a size no larger than 10 cm by means of pruning shears and drying continued in an oven for 3 hours at 102 ° C. Once dried, they were ground in a Thomas brand multifunction blender and placed back in the oven for 2 hours at 102 ° C to ensure optimal drying. Finally, the biomass was stabilized in a desiccator at room temperature. The biomass was then sieved using a set of A.S.T.M. sieves (2 mm, 1 mm, 0.3 mm, 0.212 mm, and 0.125 mm) to obtain the desired particle size. The residual rose stem biomass was then stored in airtight containers to prevent an increase in moisture content. The data obtained were used to perform a differential analysis to determine the efficiency of the biomass production process. c) Chemical treatments of biomass: The pretreated biomass was modified with two different chemical treatments: sequential acid and alkaline hydrolysis, and acid hydrolysis. The bioadsorbent obtained from rose stems is characterized by comprising 18.58 ± 1.16% hemicellulose, 59.18 ± 0.92% cellulose, and 25.45 ± 0.57% lignin; it has an acidic character with a PCZ of 5.04, where 16.67% corresponds to basic groups and 83.33% to acid groups.
