Abstract
Lima was characterized by presenting wooden balconies from different periods of its Hispanic history. During the 19th century, balconies were carved because of changes in styles and construction processes. The balconies of this century were called Republican balconies because they coincided with the beginnings of the Peruvian republic. The study of these balconies focused on the stylistic aspects, generating a gap in the knowledge of their construction characteristics. Precisely the objective of the research was to examine the carpentry elements and their joints in the Republican balcony, for which a construction inventory of the 19th century balconies in the Historic Center of Lima was carried out, compared with documents from historical archives. The work allowed us to understand the working environment of carpenters in Lima and identify the various pieces of carpentry and the joints on the making of the Republican balconies.
