Handbook of Latin American Health PsychologyAbstract
The study of stress and its impact on health is one of the most researched areas in social and health sciences. Stress is everywhere and is one of the main causes of the development of diseases. Most studies on stress are developed in the American or European context, but not in contexts of developing countries, like many Latin American countries. In this sense, this chapter does not intend to cover everything or provide a comprehensive view of the large amount of scientific literature on the impact of stress on health and its explanatory mechanisms. Instead of this, it is intended to present a brief general description of what has been researched about stress and its impact on health in Latin America.
