- Emerging (or re-emerging) infectious diseases are those infections whose incidence has increased in recent years. For this reason, special attention must be given to the detection and characterization of these pathogens, as well as their relationship with the host. The group’s objectives are: 1) To determine the presence of etiological agents associated with emerging (or re-emerging) infectious diseases such as dengue and/or Carrión’s disease. 2) To characterize the relationship between the pathogen and the host response (measurement of cytokines, cellular immune activation, presence of autoantibodies, etc.). This includes research on metaxenic diseases (dengue, Carrión’s disease), zoonotic diseases (related to enteropathogens), and viral diseases with pandemic potential, such as COVID-19 or other respiratory viruses. The laboratory employs techniques from molecular biology, genomics, and immunology.
