Abstract

The objective of the present study was to determine the prevalence of antibodies against the Border Disease virus (VEF) in sheep Junín breed of SAIS Túpac Amaru. 465 individuals were randomly selected for this study, with ages between 5-8 years old. Blood samples were collected and the evaluation was performed with the IDEXX enzyme immunoassay kit for the detection of antibodies to the p80 BDV protein on individual samples of sheep blood serum. 1.08 ± 0.94% (5/465) of the sheep tested presented BDV antibodies, and the stochastic simulations model with beta distribution demonstrated a prevalence of 0.1378% and 2.0127% for minimum and maximun, respectively. There were no significant differences (p> 0.05) for the variable of age or sex versus the presence of antibodies against BDV. The results indicate that the BDV has a low prevalence in the ovine population of SAIS Tupac Amaru and the disease can be inactive.
