Abstract

Early detection of skin cancer is essential for its treatment. In this sense, there are numerous techniques and instruments for medical personnel to make the respective diagnosis; however, these instruments can be expensive or simply not available. Therefore, this study proposes a mobile application for the possible detection of melanoma in the skin by digital photography, which has achieved 96% accuracy in the tests performed using 80 images of skin lesions of which 40 are benign and 40 malignant. The application takes the image and sends it to the server for processing, which is based on the criteria of asymmetry and irregularity of the border of the photographed sample.
